Cold Heading Quality Rod, also referred to as CHQ, may be used for heading, forging and cold extrusion. These rods are produced by closely controlled manufacturing practices and are frequently subject to mill testing and inspection to ensure internal soundness and freedom from surface defects.

While we have access to most carbon and alloy grades in CHQ rod, some of the more popular grades we supply are 1008, 1010, 1012, 1015, 1018, 1020, 1022, 1030, 1035, 1038, 1040, 1045, 1541, 4037, 4140 and 8640. We also supply many of these grades that have been boron treated. A typical cold heading quality rod that we supply is packaged into a 4,000-pound coil of one continuous length. We can, however, provide rod in a variety of other size packages as well.
