A. Smooth dowel rod is often used in concrete to keep the concrete from lifting. Dowel rod allows for concrete expansion and contraction which can occur upon weather and moisture changes.

Q. What sizes are popular to produce dowel rods?

A. Common sizes purchased to produce dowel rod are 1/2″, 5/8″, 3/4″, 7/8″, 1″, 1-1/8″, 1-1/4″ and 1-3/8″. These bars are often shear cut or saw cut to specific lengths such as 18″ depending on the application.

A. Bar purchased to produce dowel rods is commonly purchased in grades such as , A615 Grade 40, A615 Grade 60 and sometimes even as no grade.
